The WELL (Washington Employees Living Longer) Program is Washington County’s employee wellness program. A committee was formed in June of 2005 and they began developing goals and objectives of this program. The ultimate goal of the program is for Washington County employees to live longer and learn to make healthier life choices.

The committee has partnered with The Washington Hospital and Health Assurance and has already had some very successful programs. An Employee Health Needs and Interest Assessment survey was done in August of 2005. Based on the results of this survey, in December of 2005, the Committee released a variety of discounts at the local fitness centers that employees were interested in joining.

In January of 2006, the Committee began to train employees on the “Healthier at Home” medical self care texts. These books were purchased by Health Assurance and each employee that attended the training class received their free copy of this book. Over 800 employees took part in these training classes.

In February and March of 2006, The Washington Hospital conducted Health Risk Assessment screenings and did follow-up consultations in March and April of 2006. Over 340 employees took advantage of this extremely successful, free program. Based on the results of the screenings, the County has promoted a Walking WELL Program kick off in June 2006.
